Granada City (Andalucía, Spain)

The city of Granada is placed at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains which include the highest point on the Spanish mainland, Mulhacén at 3,482mt/10,794ft. They are covered in snow from October until April.

The population of the city is 237,000 and the greater urban area 473,000.

The nearest airport is Granada/Jaén International which is very close to the city.

Granada is a hot spot among the cultural and tourist cities of Spain, mainly due to the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens. These fine examples of Moorish architecture are famous the world over.

Similar to the other great Moorish city of Córdoba, Granada enjoyed years of peace when the three great religions, Christians, Moslems and Jews lived side by side.

Now Granada is a bustling modern city with one of the best night lifes in Spain and is well known as being one of the great university cities of Spain.

Ideally placed to visit the Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarras and the Costa Tropicál which is less than an hour away, it has good communications.

Among the barrios (suburbs) not to be missed are the Albaycín, Sacromonte and Realejo.

The ski resort of Sierra Nevada can be reached in just 30 minutes and here it is possible to ski in the morning and then go sunbathing in the afternoon on the Costa Tropical.
